Teletherapy FAQs

  • Numerous studies have shown that teletherapy can be just as effective as in-person therapy for a wide range of conditions and age groups. Many clients experience similar, if not better, outcomes through online sessions. Success is attributed to numerous factors, including increased attendance. We use various tools and methods to engage your child, ensuring that therapy remains effective and tailored to your child.

  • ALL areas of speech and language can be effectively addressed through teletherapy, but certain areas tend to work particularly well in a virtual setting:

    • Written Language

    • Decoding

    • Reading and Listening Comprehension

    • Pragmatic (Social) Support

    • Executive Functioning Support

  • Before starting regular sessions, we conduct an initial online assessment of not just your child’s speech and language skills, but also their ability to engage and focus in an online setting. This helps us customize our approach to meet your child’s specific needs. Personalized strategies may include shorter sessions, interactive activities, and frequent breaks to keep your child engaged.

  • We will work with you to create a distraction-free environment for your child during sessions. This may include setting up the therapy space in a quiet room and removing access to other devices or distractions. Sessions are designed to be dynamic and interactive and will require your child’s participation, making it less likely for them to divert their attention elsewhere.

  • Our goal is to make the therapy process as smooth and stress-free as possible for both you and your child. Most of our teletherapy sessions are designed to be conducted independently by our trained therapists, meaning you won’t need to be present or actively monitor the session.

You will receive regular updates and feedback from the therapist about your child’s progress and engagement in the sessions. If the therapist does need occasional support from you, it will be minimal and clearly communicated in advance.

  • No problem; we get it!! If online therapy isn’t the best fit for your child, we will work with you to explore our in-person therapy options. Email us: info@mannerofspeakingbklyn.com
