We Support Schools With

  • We offer comprehensive school screenings designed to identify and address potential speech and language challenges in young learners. Our team of experienced speech-language pathologists conducts thorough screenings for pre-k and kindergarten students. Early identification of speech and language difficulties can improve a child’s overall academic success, prevent further difficulties, and increase social skills.

Our screenings for pre-k and kindergarten students are designed to assess key areas of communication, including:

    • Articulation: Evaluating how well children produce and differentiate sounds.

    • Receptive Language: Understanding how well children comprehend spoken language.

    • Expressive Language: Assessing a child's ability to express thoughts, ideas, and needs verbally.

    • Pragmatic Skills: Observing social language use, such as taking turns in conversation and using language appropriately in different contexts.

Targeted Screenings for Students Needing Extra Support

In addition to our general screenings, we also offer screenings for older students who have been identified by their teachers as potentially needing speech and language support. Teachers often notice early signs of speech or language difficulties, such as:

    • Difficulty following directions

    • Limited vocabulary

    • Challenges in pronouncing words correctly

    • Struggles with forming complete sentences

  • We are committed to supporting the early identification of dyslexia in young children. Our dyslexia screenings are designed to assess critical areas of reading and phonological awareness, ensuring that children receive the necessary support to succeed academically.

Our screenings include a thorough evaluation of:

    1.  Phonological Awareness Skills: recognizing and manipulating sounds in words, identifying and producing rhyming words, and the ability to segment and blend sounds and syllables.

    2. Phoneme-Grapheme Correspondence:  understanding how sounds correspond and match with graphemes (letters or letter strings).

Identifying these issues early helps us create targeted intervention plans to support each child's reading development.

  • With our specialized knowledge in language and literacy, we can help bring comprehensive, structured literacy support to schools. Our approach involves collaborating with teachers, special educators, and speech pathologists to create a cohesive and effective literacy program.

We work closely with teachers to establish classrooms that incorporate the six essential elements of structured literacy:

    1. Phonology: Activities that develop awareness of sounds and sound patterns.

    2. Sound-Symbol Association: Teaching the relationship between sounds (phonemes) and their corresponding letters or letter combinations (graphemes).

    3. Syllable Instruction: Helping students understand and decode syllable types and patterns.

    4. Morphology: Exploring the structure of words, including roots, prefixes, and suffixes.

    5. Syntax: Teaching sentence structure and the grammatical rules of language.

    6. Semantics: Enhancing comprehension and meaning through vocabulary and context.

Our goal is to support a school's ability to implement all of the elements of structured literacy across the curriculum, not just in an ELA setting.
